A VOICE IN THE COMMUNITY
Ambassadors for Texas Children’s
On Wednesday, December 4, 2013, more than 400 Ambassadors members gathered in an open-air tent on a beautifully landscaped corner lot on River Oaks Boulevard owned by Melissa and Brad Juneau. Guests enjoyed cocktails and dinner while celebrating another year of Ambassadors friendship and fundraising for Texas Children’s. Melissa and Reverend Larry Hall from St. John the Divine Episcopal Church presented Texas Children’s Physician-in-Chief Dr. Mark Kline with a check for more than $1.8 million, the amount raised by Ambassadors members in 2013. Members were asked to bring a donation of unwrapped white tee-shirts, socks and underwear to stock patient cabinets in the hospital. Spotted under the tent: Carolyn and David Anderson, Kelli and Eddy Blanton, Nancy and Jimmy Gordon, Mary and Carter Groves, Terri and John Havens, Christina and Alan Knust, Kirby and Scott McCool, Barbara and Corby Robertson, and Mary Martha and Joel Staff. Throughout the year, Ambassadors members have the opportunity to get up close and personal with Texas Children’s renowned physicians and staff. Last September, psychologist Dr. Beth Garland presented “Positive Parenting,” covering such topics as having supportive conversations about hard topics and the value of praise and how to make it count. Then in October, immunologists Dr. Jordan Orange and Dr. Carla Davis presented “The Truth About Food Allergies: What Are the Real Risks?,” cutting through the headlines and sharing the facts everyone needs to keep their children safe. In November, anesthesiologist Dr. Dean Andropoulos presented “Getting to Ouch-less: Anesthesia and Pain Management in Children and Teens,” covering the very latest in research and patient care. Spotted lunching and learning: Jennifer and Michael Dellinger, Leslie and Michael Fertitta, Neekie Kashani, Nicole Katz, Meredith Mandel, Kristi and Mike Oldham, and Natalie Synnott.
